PSP Photography Challenge
Home Page
The Challenge is open to anyone who
uses PSP and has access to the corel.PaintShopPro_Photography user group.
The objective of the challenge is to encourage the taking of photographs and
to promote the use of PSP within the digital darkroom. The challenge takes the form of
submissions against a set theme and runs for 14 days. Only photographs
taken within the 14 day timeframe may be entered. At the end of the 14 day
timeframe the judge chooses one entry that, in their
opinion, most effectively reflects the theme. The owner of that
entry sets the next theme and becomes the judge for that theme.
Rules
1. Theme Any theme permitted under
the rules of corel.PaintShopPro_Photography is allowed. Seasonal
themes should be chosen with care to ensure everyone can
participate. {Snow and Ice, whilst appearing topical in January in the
Northern Hemisphere has little relevance to those in the Southern
Hemisphere}
2. PSP PSP must
form some part of the workflow used to create the submission. A short
description of the use of PSP in the workflow (including the
version) is expected but not mandatory. [It is in everyones interest that the
information is given as it encourages the development of PSP skills]
3. Format Photos should be submitted, as jpeg attachments, to
corel.PaintShopPro_Photography and entitled "CHALLENGE - theme name:
submitters name - n" (where n is a number between 1&5). Photos can
be landscape or portrait orientation. Photos can be black and white,
antique coloration - eg sepia, or full color. Normal rules for posting
to corel.PaintShopPro_Photography apply. [Recommendation is to keep
your photo size to 1024 pixels max on the longest side and file size under
200 KB] Each entry must include the EXIF information. [It is
in everyones interest that the information is given as it encourages the
development of photographic skills].
Entries should not be framed, although a small (1 or 2 pixel)
black or white border is acceptable.
4 Adjustments
Each challenge entry must be based on a single photograph taken
during the 14 day period of the challenge. Basic "digital
darkroom" editing, such as cropping, cloning, masking, adjustment layers,
noise reduction and sharpening is acceptable however extensive
manipulation, e.g. merging multiple photos, is not allowed except for
the exception defined below.
A judge may set aside this
rule for a particular challenge.
Exception to Rule 4
Within every challenge ONE entry may make use of the complete set of tools provided by a normal PSP release (full or upgrade). Scripts, either
own programmed or externally source, are allowed. Plugins are
NOT allowed.
When submitting an entry under this exception the following conditions
must be met:
Start point for the submission MUST be a photograph which meets the
criteria of the challenge [taken within the challenge timeframe, includes
full EXIF].
This starting photograph must be submitted as an addition to the
challenge entry.
Full details of the PSP processes, scripts used etc to get from the
start photograph to the challenge entry must be included with the
entry.
Note: If an entrant wishes to continue submitting
five challenge entries which meet the requirements of Rule 4 this
exception may be ignored.
5 Judging The sole vote belongs to the
theme 'owner'. No discussion or explanation of the
judging process and/or choice is expected.
6 Submissions
Challenge photographs must be taken during the two week period
following the publication of the challenge theme. The challenge start time
is the time the challenge notice appears in the newsgroup. Do not
submit archival images (images taken before the start of the current
theme).
A maximum of FIVE entries per challenge is
allowed,ONE of which may obey the exception to Rule 4. Each entry may be changed ONCE whilst the
challenge is open. Changes may be made at any time during the challenge.
Changes
must be clearly marked as such and must identify the entry being changed.
Individual entries may change status under Rule 4 providing
only ONE exception to Rule 4 entry is live at any
time.
7. Start &
Deadline
(By common practice) the start of the
challenge shall be the Tuesday following the announcement of the
winner of the last challenge. The deadline is set
to be exactly 14 days from the time the challenge appears in
Corel.PaintShopPro_Photography. The complete set of
submissions will be displayed on a web page at www.kenhoyle.co.uk/Challenge
[see list on the left]
8. Legal: Do not submit images for
which you do not own the copyright. Do not submit images that you
yourself or a member of your immediate family did not take.
